Top Ten Hitters According to CBS Sports

Wow, what a start to the BBL season. We are a month into the season and we have some very surprising offensive performances. Historically, pitching fluctuates greatly from year to year because of injuries, but the top ten hitters tend to be the same. Not so fast this year.

Here is the top ten list and a few comments:

  1. Ryan Zimmerman (Crew) ($1) – Obviously no one saw this coming, not even the Crew. Reports say that Murphy urged Zimmerman to change his swing this off-season. I am guessing Zimmy owes Murphy a steak or a new car or something. Zimmerman has 11 HR, 29 RBI, 1 SB and a .455 OBP. I am glad you asked…yes, yes Crew did purchase this player for $1.
  2. Bryce Harper (Meat) ($50) – No surprise that Harper is in the top 10, but a bit surprising he is ahead of Godschmidt and other well-known hitters. Harper has 9 HR, 27 RBI and a .513 OBP.
  3. Freddie Freeman (HDC) ($39) – We probably should have seen this breakout and HDC was wise to see it. Freeman has 10 HR, 16 RBI, 4 SB with a .491 OBP.
  4. Aaron Judge (Nitros) ($3) – Wow…just wow. This guy is a monster. Surely he will slow down, but right now he is carrying the Nitros team in first place in the standings. Judge has 12 HR (MLB leader), 25 RBI, 1 SB with a .424 OBP.
  5. Eric Thames (Streak) ($15) – There is a reason they called him “God” in South Korea. This guy can mash. Very curious if he can continue this production once pitchers adjust to him. Thames has 11 HR, 20 RBI with a .446 OBP.
  6. Paul Goldschmidt (Streak) ($50) – Godschmidt happens sometimes. No surprise Goldy is in the top ten and will remain here and probably move up as the season progresses. Goldy has 4 HR, 20 RBI, 8 SB with a .459 OBP. Something tells me those HR’s will increase significantly.
  7. Chris Owings (Nitros) ($3) – One of these things is not like the others…We can all rationalize the vast majority of the players on this list. Not so much with Owings. Flash in the pan? Good one month of production? We will see. Owings has 4 HR, 20 RBI, 8 SB with a .356 OBP.
  8. Miguel Sano (Meat) ($23) – We always knew Sano would be good and this looks like the year Sano proves it. Sano is crushing the ball with 8 HR, 27 RBI, with a .446 OBP.
  9. Daniel Murphy (BMO) ($9 SK) – You read correctly. Three Nationals in the top ten. Wow…what an offense. Murphy has 5 HR, 28 RBI with a .383 OBP. Now, if he could just play the Mets every day those numbers would be double!
  10. Wil Myers (Frenchie) ($12 SK) – The former Royal prospect has turned aces for the Padres. Good for him. Myers sports 7 HR, 21 RBI, 2 SB with a .322 OBP. Weird that his OBP is so low.

Other notables:

  1. Avisail Garcia (Crew) ($4) – Just missed the top ten. Can you believe he is only 25 years old? Seems as if he has been in the majors for the last 10 years under performing. This year he is performing with 5 HR, 21 RBI, and .433 OBP
  2. Mark Reynolds (Peep) ($1) – Made the most of his time with the Rockies and now probably has a role on the team going forward. This could really impact Dahl’s chances of having a major league job when (or if) he comes off the DL. Reynolds mashes to the tune of 8 HR, 23 RBI and .355 OBP.
  3. Nolan Arrenado (Kids) ($49) – Currently ranked as the 37th best player.
  4. Kris Bryant (Pimps) ($49) – 42nd
  5. Anthony Rizzo (Nitros) ($42) – 49th.
  6. Giancarlo Stanton (Streak) ($36) – 70th.
  7. Andrew McCutchen (Frenchie) ($33) – 144th.
  8. Miguel Cabrera (Crew) ($42) – 166th. Mostly injury issue here.
