BBL 2016 – One Surprising Offensive Player for Each Team

This article will point out a player for each BBL team that has made a surprising impact on the offensive side of the ledger. We are not pointing out obvious rookies or established stars…but those random players that have extraordinary seasons that help a team in unsuspecting ways.

Cocky Spainards – Rajai Davis

Did anyone else realize that Rajai Davis stands at 7 HR so far this year? We all know Davis can steal bases (17 SB so far), but the power was a surprised. Davis hit 8 HR all year in 2015. Originally projected to only hit 6 HR all season in 2016, the Spainards are really enjoying the extra HR.

Blue Moon Odum – Jay Bruce

Thank goodness this guy is going to be traded soon and hopefully outside of the BBL league. Bruce sit at 15 HR/51 RBI and we are not even at the All Star Break yet. Listen, Bruce has the history of a slugger…but we all thought the shift killed him since he posted sub-.300 OBP the last two years and only hit 18 HR last year.

HooDoo Cats – Adam Duvall (honorable mention Jonathan Villar)

Arenado, Trumbo, Frazier, Duvall and Cano…those are your top five HR leaders as of the date of this article.  Two of them are owned by HDC and one of those names is a surprise. Yes, Duvall has 18 HR and 45 RBI. If Upton actually starts to hit, we are going to need a new-fangled chalice.

Nitros – Melvin Upton

Is this guy still playing baseball? At the ripe ol’ age of 31, he has banged out 9 HR and 13 SB thus far.

Pastries – Whit Merrifield (honorable mention Danny Espinosa)

We picked Whit over Danny because probably no one gave Whit a chance except for the Royals. Whit looks like the perfect answer for the Royals this year and fits in with the “gritty-never say die” team. From a fantasy perspective, Whit in his short time in the big leagues has 2 HR, 3 SB with a nice OBP sitting at .336. Not to mention the kid is on fire with the bat right now. The Pastries are going to need him with Wright going down for the year and Brantley in some form of unknown status so far this year.

Paezans – Eduardo Nunez

Ed-who? Ed-9 HR, 15 SB and .347 OBP is who. Not to mention he qualifies at 2b, 3b and SS.

Al’s Pals – Trevor Story

I think we all thought Trevor would be good, but not this good. Therefore he gets his name on the “surprise” list with 17 HR, 4 SB and a .320 OBP. The Nitros hate this dude because he put Parra on the DL. What is hard to understand with “I’ve got it” being yelled by the left fielder? Really…come on.

Peep Rub – John Jay

This one was hard on the offensive side. Not many things have gone right this year for Peep Rub. We are selecting John Jay who has been…well John Jay with his 2 HR, 2 SB…however, .338 OBP is nothing to sneeze at considering there are 8 BBL points up for grab between .322 and .330 in the league.

Earl’s Squirrels – Jake Lamb

Who isn’t killing it on the offensive side of the ledger for the Squirrels? Wow, if this team could find some pitching they would win it all this year. Jake Lamb (in part-time duty I will add) has 12 HR, 3 SB and a smoking, sexy .350 OBP.

Darcy Jay’s Crew – Chris Herrmann

Two r’s and two n’s Herrmann…get that right. Not related to Herman Munster…although Mr. Munster did try out for the Dodgers once.  If you don’t pay for a catcher, getting production from this slot is difficult. Herrmann posted personal bests this year…and where did he come from? Geez. Herrmann is at 6 HR, 3 SB and .348 OBP. The Nitros hate this guy because he is taking time away from Mallex Smith…err…Beef Wellington.

LW – Corey Seager

The much maligned LW. We all thought it was Deliverance all over again when the “blockbuster” trade was announced, but LW might have the last laugh. Corey is busting out this year with 15 HR, 1 SB and .335 OBP.

Sundance Kids – Trayce Thompson

Trayce T-R-A-Y-C-E…crazy freaking first name. You don’t pull on Superman’s Cape and you don’t trade with the Kids. It really is that simple. The Kids will always…always win in the end. Trayce is sporting 11 HR, 4 SB and .346 OBP.

Streak – Aaron Hill

Yeah, we all thought this guy was done. Not so fast! Aaron says “suck it” with his 7 HR, 4 SB and .351 OBP.

Meat – We were unable to find the team in the BBL database.
