BBL Week Seven – The Critter

The Critter

Earl’s Squirrels are struggling!  We always try to help our the great BBL owners with some handy advice. Matt Latos throws a pitch that no one else in the league can throw.  It is called The Critter.

Latos Grip on The Critter.
Latos Grip on The Critter.

Who cares.  Latos is a really bad pitcher posting 5.1 INN, 7 HA, 2 BBI, 7 K, 6 ER, 10.125 ERA, 1.688 WHIP this last week.  There is no truth to the rumor that the Quibbler is we are out to end the career of Matt Latos.

Shocking News – Troy Tulowitzki is Hurt – Again

I know this is shocking news to all owners in the BBL, but Troy Tulowitzki is hurt (again).  The curious unfortunate timing relates to the injury happening immediately after he met with his agent to discuss the possibility of a trade.  Rumor has it that the following exchange happened:

Troy:  Playing for a bad team really stinks.  You know that Rollins guy is horrible for the Dodgers.  Why don’t you call the Dodgers and get me a ring?  Also, it would make me happy to hurt the Nitros by putting Rollins on the bench.

Agent:  Troy…Troy! Why would you want a trade?  You can either go work hard for a team that expects you to play through injuries or you can get injured, sit at home and play Playstation and still make the same money in Colorado.

Troy:  You have a point….

Team Al’s Pals commented below after learning of Troy’s injury:

“*&%(*&(#$&&*@#!!!!!”

Al’s Pals are getting a bit worried having hit only 3 HR the entire Week Six and then only 2 HR the entire Week Seven.  The Pals have fallen hard over the last two weeks and now reside in the 9th position at the end of Week Six.  When asked about his team’s lack of power, Al’s Pals responded:

“*&(%(*&$$^!!!!”

To make matters worse, Corey Dickerson went on the DL with planta fasciitis.  When asked about the injury, Al’s Pals responded:

“*&(%(*&$$^!!!!”

Finally, and this should come as no surprise, Justin Morneau went on the DL with concussion issues….again.  The former Twins MVP has a history of concussion issues and some think he may walk away from the game if he continues to have these issues.

Apparently, Team Al’s Pals decided a change was in order to turn around the team and shake up the clubhouse.  The Pals secured the services of Ben Paulson for $19, Brandon Barnes for $8 and Justin Bour for $16.

Welcome Back Hunter Pence

While the BBL looks into allegations of free agent tampering lodged against the Paezans by the Nitros.  Hunter will, for at least the 2015 baseball year, play for the hated Paezans and their Pimp Daddy owner.  Welcome back Mr. Pence to the BBL.  Pence wasted no time getting back in the groove by swatting his first home run of the season and posting some epic instagram pictures.

Hunter Pence posted 4-8, 2B, HR, 2 RBI, 5 R, BB, 0.556 OBP during Week Six and 6-26, 2B, 5 RBI, 3 R, BB, 0.259 OBP during Week Seven.  The Paezans are sitting at 6th place after Week Seven.

Jason Werth and Wrist Injuries Do Not Get Along

Streak is out of last place.  Streak is out of last place.  Streak is out of last place!

It has been a really tough year so far for the Streak.  But, the Streak is a grinding team that has no quit in it.  In fact, Streak is now in 11th place moving two spots up from the cellar position.  On the not so good news front, Jason Werth may be hurt more than originally thought.  The last time Werth had a wrist injury, it was a lost season. No matter what happens, that dude still has a sweet beard.  In fact, it is so awesome that the beard has its own twitter account.

State of the Standings

The top four teams are the same as Week Five as the BBL is starting to work its way into a rythm.  The Spainards, HooDoo Cats, the Crew, and the Sundance Kids respectively come in at 1 through 4 this week.

King of the K’s

Let’s take a look at the K leaders for each team.

Al’s Pals – Corey Kluber – 84.  The Klubot is back.

Champ – Danny Salazar – 60.  Went for a $2 FAAB bid if I recall correctly.

Presumed Champ – James Shields – 82.  Yeah, the Royals didn’t need this guy.  He is all washed up.

Darcy Jay’s Crew – A.J. Burnett – 53.  $1 at the Auction.

Squirrels – Francisco Liriano – 64.  $3 at the Auction.

Pastries – Jeff Samardjiza – 49.  Really a disappointment.  Really thought he would do better this year.

HooDoo Cats – Carlos Martinez – 48.  He also has used to have a great instagram feed.   You will have the option to watch a video showing his previous Instagram feed.  It is very, very NSFW.

Meat – Johnny Cueto – 60.  Uhh ohh.  Looks like elbow issues for Cueto.

Nitros – Max Scherzer – 72.

Paezans – Gerritt Cole – 63.

Peep Rub – Cole Hamels – 67.  Where is this one going to end up at the trade deadline?  Our best guess is that he can’t be moved or he simply refuses to waive his no-trade clause.

Streak – Anibal Sanchez – 59.

Sundance Kids – King Felix – 63.

Musings.  Many name brands in this list (Felix, Scherzer and Kluber) but look at some bargains (Burnett, Liriano and Salazar).  This league is unwilling to pay for pitching past a certain point.

Chasing Saves

Colorado

It is official that Adam Ottavino is done for the year.  Axford has been lights out recently, recording another save just last night.  It looks like the job is Axford’s presently.

Indians

Like we said, Cody Allen is toast turning things around and picked up his 9th save recently with a perfect ninth.  The Presumed Champ believes in him so much that he recently dropped Shaw for the services of Mike Bolsinger for $9.

Diamondbacks

Did anyone else just realize Addison Reed only has two saves on the season?  The HooDoo Cats sure know it.  The Champ is betting on Enrique Burgos for $13 while team Peep Rub is betting on the Ziegler (which makes me think of Saved by the Bell for some reason).
